Sunday Night Cocktail

imageMy husband will be the first to tell you he’s a lucky guy. Now, I’m not bragging but I make a pretty good cocktail, and I’ve made it a traditional to surprise him with a different one every Sunday evening. Why Sunday? Back in the day, Sunday night was usually filled with anxiety. Did I finish all my homework? Am I forgetting a test scheduled for Monday? Was there a paper due?

Nowadays, I’ve made an effort to reserve Sunday night for heavy relaxation. My plan is to ease into the week. Besides, Sunday is usually premium TV night. Game of Thrones, Boardwalk Empire, Mad Men, Downton Abbey.

Why not give your life a mini upgrade and start your own Sunday night cocktail tradition. Here’s a recipe to start you off. I’ll be posting a new one every Sunday.

Dale DeGroff’s Whiskey Smash

3 lemon pieces (cut a lemon in half and then quarter one of the halves, use three of the quarters)

5 mint leaves

1 oz simple syrup

1 ½ oz Maker’s Mark bourbon

Lemon wedge and mint sprig for garnish

Muddle the lemon pieces, mint leaves and simple syrup in a mixing glass. Add bourbon and ice and shake until well-chilled. Strain into a rocks glass with ice. Garnish with lemon wedge ad mint sprig. Enjoy!
