Treat yourself to a lifestyle upgrade

Ladies, if we’re not going to occasionally treat ourselves to the finer things in life, then who is? We can stay watching movies and TV shows where flawless heroines strut into posh restaurants, sip pricey champagne and dine on fine food and we think…I can work with that, want that life, even if it’s for an evening. And then we go back to wishing and hoping and dreaming that one day, on some special occasion, someone will make the invite and usher you into that world.

And you wait … and wait.

But hold up. You make your money, pay your bills, dress well, drive nice. So what are you waiting for? It’s time for you and your girls to take yourselves out for a stellar experience. Now I’m not suggesting you go into debt for a day of fun. What you can do is earmark that stash of loose change and putting a little bit aside every payday as a Sunny Day Fund. Then plan on spending it on giving yourself a truly memorable experience. Now others may suggest treating yourself to a massage or a mani pedi, and those things are nice. Really they are. But you could probably spring for that in any given week. No, think of the Sunny Day Fund as an upgrade on the run-of-the-mill treat. I say go fancy or stay home.

If you’re in or near New York City, the Olma Caviar Boutique & Bar located in the Food Hall at the renown Plaza Hotel offers such an experience. Now, nothing says “Ball so hard this ish crazy like snacking on Russian caviar while sipping on fine champagne.

This could be you, here, but you're playing.
This could be you, here, but you’re playing.

Now some of you might be thinking…eww, fish eggs, really? but stay with me. Caviar is one of the oldest delicacies in the world, prized by aristocrats and rulers long before champagne, truffles, raw oysters and all the other things that might first come to mind when we think of the finer things. The experience of eating good caviar is singular, distinctive. Each tiny sphere packs a lot of flavor—buttery rich, subtly salty and slightly sweet. Sitting at one of Olma’s bistro tables, with the caviar pearls glistening like jewels atop dollops of creme fraiche and resting on French blinis along with a glass of Moet is the perfect mini lifestyle upgrade.

Like little glittering jewels of flavor

Olma is the only restaurant in Manhattan where you can taste Beluga caviar, and in addition they also serve a wide variety of black and red caviars. There’s no need to feel intimidated if you don’t know your Russian Osetra Karat from your Osetra Siberian Baerii or your Hackleback from your White Sturgeon. Olma offers a sample platter of all their offerings for $80. Now that’s an affordable luxury.
