This week’s edition of Drink Like Don Draper features the favorite tipple of the silver fox, Roger Sterling.
Roger is a martini man, and he and his drink of choice share several attributes: Both are dapper, stylish, sophisticated and always in good taste —OK a martini is always in good taste, Roger let himself down in season 3 when he put on blackface for that Kentucky Derby party.

The recipe for the martini is pretty simple: Gin, dry vermouth and a garnish. Stir the gin and vermouth vigorously glass, strain into a martini glass and add garnish. Getting the proportion of gin to vermouth right is where the arguments start. Depending on who you listen to, the proper balance is found anywhere from
4 oz gin and 1 oz vermouth
2½ oz gin to 3/4 oz vermouth
2 oz of gin to 1 oz vermouth
to pouring gin into the glass and waving a bottle of vermouth over it.
I say there is no one correct way. Try out different proportions to find the one that works for you.
My only martini rule: Always gin, never vodka.
